Frequently Asked Questions

What is sourdough?

Sourdough is a type of bread made through natural fermentation. Instead of using commercial yeast to leaven the dough, sourdough relies on a starter—a mixture of flour and water teeming with naturally occurring wild yeasts and lactic acid bacteria. These microorganisms ferment the carbohydrates in the flour, producing carbon dioxide, which gives the bread its rise, and lactic acid, which contributes to its tangy flavor and improved shelf life.

The process of making sourdough dates back thousands of years and was the primary method of breadmaking before the advent of commercial yeast

Is the bread fresh?

Yes, all of our bread is baked fresh on the same day it’s delivered. We pride ourselves on providing the highest quality loaves for you to enjoy.

How long does the bread last?

Our bread is made with high hydration, which naturally extends its shelf life. When stored properly in a paper bag or container, it can stay fresh for up to a week.

Can I freeze the bread?

Yes! The bread freezes excellently. Wrap it airtight and freeze the whole loaf, or slice it individually so you can conveniently toast a slice when needed.

When do you sell bread?

We bake every Saturday at Marksboro Mills for pickup in Morris County. Because sourdough requires a slow ferment, orders must be placed by Friday at 6:00 PM for that week's bake day.

Can I modify or cancel my order?

You may cancel your order for a full refund until Friday at 6:00 PM. After that, orders are final — we have already started preparing your bread. Please contact us to cancel before the cutoff.

Do you have a store front?

We do not have a storefront. Orders are placed online and picked up on Saturday at Marksboro Mills.

Do you sell outside of Morris County?

It depends! Please reach out to us directly, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your location. We’re happy to discuss options for deliveries beyond Morris County.
